Senator David Pocock is Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Housing and introduced all 8 women with lived experience who formed Housing for the Aged Action Group’s Canberra delegation, to the Senate on Wednesday afternoon.
Thank you, Senator, for your acknowledgment of our advocacy to prevent women in the future experiencing what we have in the past.
Many changes are needed to make this vision a reality and we need champions with influence to work with us.
Next week is Homelessness Week and Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG) are taking a delegation of older women to Canberra where over 25 meetings have been arranged with various Senators, Ministers, and MPs.
Maggie and Linda from the HOW Movement will be representing Queensland and are looking forward to a busy week, along with delegates from WA, NSW, and VIC.
On Thursday 10 August from 12.15-1.15pm you can join Maggie and Linda and the rest of the delegation online at the Parliament House launch of the latest report: “Ageing in a Housing Crisis”.
Some excellent ideas were generated and recorded at our first forum in Dec 2019 and beautifully captured in this infographic which is now in the Q Shelter offices.
Update: Translating ideas into action takes passion, persistence and perseverance and more time than we anticipated back then, but we are still here and still working to enable the voices of women with lived experience forward to inform change.
